Private Guiding at Nelson Rocks, WV

Nelson RocksSeneca Rocks Climbing School has access to one of the other great climbing areas of the North Fork Valley where Seneca is located, Nelson Rocks.  Nelson is managed by the Nelson Rocks Outdoor Center, a private company that operates a Via Ferrata and Canopy Tour on the property.  Nelson has the same high quality Tuscarora Sandstone as Seneca but at Nelson Rocks the geology has presented as two fins that run parallel to each other up a mountainside. Both fins are over two hundred feet tall and offer an excellent opportunity for both single pitch and multi-pitch climbing.  Some classics at Nelson Rocks include:  Mr. Bigglesworth (5.4) E-Z Wider (5.6), Sidwell (5.6),  Tommy T (5.6), Sticky Fingers (5.7), Diamonds are Forever (5.7) Shaken not Stirred (5.8), Sorry Howard (5.9), Crescendo (5.10a)  and Stone Gallows (5.10b)  Our normal Private Guiding rates apply for most climbs at Nelson Rocks.

Millennium (III 5.7)

John climbing Millennium

In Rock Climbing Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland, Eric Horst said: “Nelson also features West Virginia’s longest climb, Millennium (5.7), a nine pitch, 1000-foot, rising traverse of the east face of the west fin.”  The Millennium Traverse makes for a long, fun day out.  As Millennium is a grade III route, meaning that the climb will take most of the day to complete and efficiency is important, we require anyone interested in climbing this classic to have solid multi-pitch seconding experience.  Individuals who have taken one of the SRCS courses or have at least several days of multi-pitch seconding (with or without a guide) will be prepared for Millennium.  Because of the long nature of this climb, Seneca Rocks Climbing School will not take more than two guests per guide on the Millennium Traverse; charges are slightly more than the usual private guiding rates.
